Thinking & Process

People-First Design

Designing for real needs,
not just looks

I have always embraced the mantra often cited by the Italian designer Bruno Munari: “Beauty is a consequence of what is right.” This principle underscores that any designed object should harmonize with its materials and their inherent qualities. When every element is true to its purpose and medium, aesthetic beauty emerges naturally as a result of that rightness.
I believe that function is the heart of every experience, which is why I always place the user at the center of the design process. I recall a lesson from one of my professors a Compasso d’Oro award winning designer who challenged us to “design a new way of sitting, not a chair.” In that same spirit, I strive to design solutions and interactions that address real needs rather than merely look aesthetically pleasing.
When a design truly solves a problem or improves an experience, it inherently becomes engaging and elegant. In the end, good design is not about decoration, but about honesty and usability and beauty will follow as the natural consequence of doing things right.

From challenge to solution:
my design approach

My design philosophy draws on the principles of Humanity Centered Design. This approach focuses on creating solutions that enhance human well-being and address real world challenges. I believe design should be user centric and data driven. This ensures that people’s needs and experiences remain at the heart of every project.
My design process, inspired by Design Thinking, unfolds in five key phases. It provides a comprehensive journey from problem discovery to continuous solution optimization.
This methodology allows me to approach each project with a holistic, flexible mindset in which functionality and user needs drive every decision.

The Five Phases

1. Challenges
I identify and analyze problems and opportunities to lay a solid foundation for targeted, well informed solutions.
2. Reflection
I analyze and synthesize data and insights to define the context and establish a clear project direction.
3. Ideation
I generate creative ideas through brainstorming and collaborative workshops, using techniques like mind mapping to explore every possible solution.
4. Experience
I experiment, prototype, and test to ensure proposed solutions deliver an optimal user experience.
5. Optimize
I continuously refine the solution through iteration and user feedback, driving steady improvements and meeting project goals.
